2014 marks the 30th year of The Dallas Morning News and TEXSOM Wine Competition. The event remains one of the most respected wine competitions in the country and the largest in the southwest, judging 59,456 U. S. and international wines since its inception in 1985.

The first competition was held in March of 1985 at the Hyatt Regency Dallas with 15 judges evaluating the 570 entries we received. For the first 14 years, the competition was open only to wines produced in the United States; in 1999, we opened the competition to wines produced in all wine regions of the world. In 2013 the competition, it took 56 wine experts two full days to taste and judge 2,704 entries representing 25 states and 16 foreign countries.

The Dallas Morning News and TEXSOM Wine Competition brings together reputable industry experts as judges, whose medal picks often translate to sales, particularly in the lucrative Texas market. The association with TEXSOM also provides exposure for medal winning wines to sommeliers and wine buyers nationwide at the annual TEXSOM conference.

Over the years we have developed an eager following of the results. Consumers have access to the list of gold medal winners in The Dallas Morning News and the entire list of winning wines in a searchable database through www.dallasnews.com. The list is also available at www.wine-searcher.com.

Readers of The Dallas Morning News make the publication listing the award winning wines their buying guide for months after its release. Retailers and restaurateurs also traditionally buy and promote the award winning wines.
